Minutes of the 3rd Major Conference

The secretary general Mr Karagiannis from the Region of Western Greece,presented the national goals and plans for the development of the prefecture.  He pointed out the importance of the periphery as well as the need for its development.

 

Towns' brief presentation by the three Greek towns

 

The greek mayors presented their municipalites to the participants of  the Conference. They tried to give a general idea of their towns' political structure, economic structure and above all, to present their towns' landmarks.

He stressed  the importance of the regional policy, stating " European policy only becomes real at regional and local level, because there you have to provide solid answers. Local politicians are very important in this respect. When you discuss concrete issues, you discover that certain traditional answers are no longer sufficient. "

He thanked the Greek Partners for their contribution to the programme as well as the Coordinator's Office for its good organization. In his speech, Dr Brown pointed out the essence as well as the value of the SusSET project, to jointly explore and test policy and practice in sustaining small town well-being, and then share the experience with other interested EU nations

3 parallel sessions  (the 3 town groups: costal, city region, city service meet together) on the strategy model and local aspects.  Proposed discussion topics: specific needs and situations,  repercussions on the strategy model,  the proposed "3 international groups virtual meetings"

Friday 12 May 2006 - Aeghio - Messologhi
